My water is running in the kitchen faucet. Tried turning the shut off valve off to replace washer, but there is still water running out of the faucet(a small amount). There are separate shut off valves for hot and cold. I am assuming that the valve is the culprit since we have tried replacing the entire fitting inside of the faucet. Is this the problem or could there be something else I am missing?
The smell is definately coming from the overflow. We checked the water and the drain pipes. If we plug the overflow the smell stops. The odd thing is that the smell will go away after a while but will come back after we clean the sink with any sort of cleaning products.
I dont know what caused the smell. We have checked the trap and cleaned it out but the smell still wont go away.
My husband recently fixed a leak in the bathroom tub (sealed something) and obviously had to turn the water off while working on this. Since then the hot water in the bathroom sink does not work when we turn the faucet on (the cold water faucet does work and come out fine). Also not the kitchen sink has a delay when turning it off (water comes out about 5 seconds after turning off) Any ideas why this may be occurring?

I live in apartments and recently had my kitchen sink fill up with dirt and leaves. How does this happen? Isnt there some plumbing rules that you must have outside drainage go through different pipes or something

It’s most definitely the U shaped pipe that dissolves away over time (4 years or so) into a nickel sized hole, this has happened twice now. It’s a regular kitchen sink used for regular kitchen things. I’m not freaking out, I’m just curious what causes it to happen, thanks.
And how can I clean it? I’ve tried pouring bleach down the drain AND in the overflow hole, but the mildew persists. I don’t think there is any leaking underneath or behind the sink. It doesn’t smell unless I turn the water on. Thanks for any input.
Why doesn’t pouring bleach down it help?
