My bathroom sink has one of those button plugs which you push down to close and then push again for it to open?

However, my dad has managed to push it too far down and now it won’t spring back up as it should. Help please….

If you can remove your S bend under the sink you can release it that way, Just push up on the plug, if your not able to do it that way you can give a good squirt of WD40 let it soak over night then try to open it by pressing on the plug a few times. If neither these two things work, you can try prising it with a fine screw driver but this might cause slight damage. Put the driver in flat turn slightly and then lift. Removing the S bend is the best option

Victor is right on. Although a screw driver is too thick. I would use a nail file if removing the S hook doesn’t work. :) good luck

Sorry but I think the two previous answers are incorrect. The waste plug you refer to is on a latching mechanism and it sounds like it may have gone out of adjustment so you will either if your lucky have to push very hard in the centre with as a suggestion a hammer handle or and this may vary with make be able to screw the top chrome cap off and underneath it is a brass screw which is what needs slackening off slightly.

Hammer or should I say a wood meat tenderizer. Something with either a wood head or a wood handle to bang on the button to release it..You should only need to bang it once to make it release. If it doesn’t come up no matter what, then take a flat blade screwdriver and aim it down beside the button like a chisel and bang the other end with a hammer. You got to break it out. It is screwed in but the only way to unscrew it is to have the pressure released off the rubber, so the dome holds down the rubber…break the dome and it is unscrewable.
