Help! I knocked a lit candle over into my bathroom sink, spilling wax down the drain. How do I remove it?

I’ve looked for answers on the internet but all I find are solutions for getting wax out of carpet, or off of furniture and tablecloths; nothing about getting it out of a drain. My drain is getting somewhat clogged and I haven’t told my parents yet — I need a solution to get rid of the wax!! Thanks!

You could try boiling, and I mean boiling point water poured slowly into the drain. It could melt the wax and allow it to go on through. However, it would take several applications to get the entire j pipe where it has accumulated to heat up as well. I would heat that with a hair dryer, be careful if it is plastic piping–it is the the pipe under the sink that looks like a J. Get it very warm, then pour your water.
Barring all that, you may have to fess up and have your dad remove the J pipe and ream it out with a brush, breaking up the wax and getting rid of it.

Lots and lots of boiling water!!! That is the only suggestion but you lots of it to get the wax completely out of your drains.

It all depends on how much wax is in the drain. If you have a decent amount to start clogging oyur drain you will need to dismantle your pipes from the drain trap.(the thing that looks like a U . you can take this apart with a pair of parokette pliers or a monkey wrench. Then you can take something and scrape out the wax.
